I notice you have been a member for a long time (2007). Has it taken you this long to get approved or did you quit the process and sthen start again? I am glad that it is finally nearing thefinish line for you. It is a wild ride, but just ask anything and there wil be someone who knows the answer.

Welcome to the board. This group is incredibly supportive and hopeful.. I am not the voice f experience as I have yet to get my insurance authorization( denied times 3) but it seems that if you practice for post WLS eating--i.e. protein first then veggies you should be on track. Don't forget the water and to move your body every chance you get!
Best wishes!

Best wishes!

Lynn, you can choose to lose the 30 lbs.....or you can choose to file a grievance to get out of it. Kaiser will deny your grievance, but the DMHC (dept of managed health care) will almost certainly overturn Kaiser's denial, as they have in the past, because there is no proof that patients who lose weight pre-op do any better post-op than patients who don't face this barrier to care.
And it really is a barrier - many people just can't lose 10% of their weight (or sometimes even more is required) and never do have wls.
You can pm me if you want more information.

Welcome Lynn! I, too, am a Kaiser Richmond patient...just hit 4mos post op. Who is your surgeon? Have you met Liz and Robin yet? My doc was Dr Park, but I have met Dr Im also. And a good friend just had her surgery last week with Dr Fisher.
You will find that Richmond is quite different all around than what you will read here on this forum. They just do things differently, even from the other Kaiser facilities up and down the state. The surgery is the same, but their program is really different. It can be confusing sometimes so please feel free to ask me questions or even PM me if you like.
Regarding the 30lbs...I'm sure you received your binder from Kaiser...follow the 1200 calorie diet they have listed in there. And find some type of exercise (I walked at lunch every day) that you can do at least 3-4 times a week. I know this food plan works; there were 14 gals in my surgery 'group', and we all reached surgery goal wt and had our surgeries within 6 weeks of each other. I know you can do this! We are here to help, encourage and support you on your journey! Congratulations on making the best decision of your life ^_^
